Original patent holder and manufacturer of the Welch Expansion Plug since 1913, M.D. Hubbard offers the widest range of sizes anywhere -- from 1/8"diameter up to 6"diameter. Expansion plugs and cupped plugs are an inexpensive, efficient, permanent method of closing/sealing manufactured holes in casting and other processes. Expansion plugs with a ground edge are available for applications requiring an exceptional degree of holding power or leak resistance.

Standard Materials:

• Steel: SAE1008/1010 low carbon steels ASTM#A1089 or A569 depending on gage.
• Aluminum: 1100H14 to ASTM#B209.
• Stainless Steel: type 302 to ASTM#A177 or type 430 to ASTM#A176.

The ground expansion plug offers the greatest level of holding power or leak resistance available in an expansion plug. The ground edge provides maximum contact surface area and the finest surface finish.
To maximize effect, the counter bore should receive special finishing.
A second operation on the hole and a ground finish on the edge of a Hubbard Plug will produce the maximum effectiveness possible.
We grind the edge circumferentially to a high finish, and segregate the parts when packing to prevent damage to the edge during shipment. For greatest protection ground edge Hubbard Plugs should be kept in their packing containers up to the point of assembly.

Cupped Plugs and Cupped Plugs Pierced

Cupped plugs are an inexpensive, efficient, permanent method of closing/sealing manufactured holes. Cupped plugs do not require a counter bore to seat against. May be used under higher pressure applications than a Welch plug depending on application.

Standard Materials:

• Aluminum: 1100H14 to ASTM#B209
• Brass to ASTM#B36
